Model Description

Model Structure

The chest of drawers has 3 lower drawers and a small upper drawer. Its rectangular shape is lightened by 2 pillars finished with a thin molded frame, also repeated in the drawers, and by the corbeled plinth. The light blue cabinet is hand painted in Venetian Baroque style, with flowers and baroques. It has lacquered frames in gold leaf.

Raw Material

The chest of drawers is made of solid linden wood. The insides of the drawers are in essence of fir, joined with solid "dovetail" joints. The bedside table is lacquered with natural products.

Manufacture

The deep knowledge and study of all the craftsmanship carried out in the Venetian workshops from the beginning of the 17th to the end of the 18th are the basis for the creation of this splendid chest of drawers in Louis XV style, of which the Vangelista 1960 high cabinet-making workshop boasts the exclusive absolute. The cabinet is lacquered with natural products. Starting from a background base with a mixture of lime and Bologna plaster, the main color blue emerges, darker in the plinth and in the corsince under the top. The profiles of the frames are highlighted by the gouache gold leaf lacquer. The chest of drawers is decorated by hand with polychrome tempera colors: the refined baroque and central designs full of bouquets of flowers, reflect the eighteenth-century fashion of Venetian decorations. The cabinet is slightly faded in the corners to make it look as close as possible to the original model. To make this important chest of drawers inimitable, we have used the so-called technique acraquelè to make it old through cracking. The decorations are fixed with French shellac varnish applied with a brush, protected with virgin beeswaxwhite spread with soft cotton cloth.

Size of the model in the picture

The chest of drawers is produced in the 64x40x90h dimension. We can customize it to measure, also produced in smaller dimensions, with 3 drawers (art. 744)

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

Due to our in-depth knowledge of the decorative techniques of Venetian furnishings of the 1700s, the Superintendency of Fine Arts of Venice entrusted itself to the safe hands of Vangelista 1960 by delivering us, with the kind permission of the expert of supervising the restoration, the original artefact of the chest of drawers, of which we have decided to reproduce a copy. After photographing all the decorative components, we made a hand-drawn drawing of the furniture structure and took up the moldings of the shaped plinth, obtaining a truly excellent result in reproducing this unique art piece.
