The inside of the flap contains a complicated mixtilinear cabinet with drawers and refined open compartments; inside the small drawers there are 2 secrets that hide others inside. The upper part has an imposing internal castle full of small drawers and compartments where precious porcelain or important collections can be inserted. Its interior is lacquered in lobster color, a typical shade used in Venetian shops: the abundance of internal decorations makes it a unique piece in the world of luxury art and crafts. The black lacquer trumeau secretaire is decorated and gilded with gold leaf, hand painted with important Chinoiserie depicting scenes of the daily life of the Chinese nobility of the Yuan era dating back to 1200.

Raw Material

This important trumeau-secretaire hand decorated with polychrome Chinoiserie is made of solid linden essence, the interiors are made of fir, the supporting legs are hand turned from a piece of solid linden. The handles, keys and escutcheons are in solid brass.

Manufacture

All the workings of the majestic Venetian trumeau in black lacquer, from the structure of the frame, to the lacquering, the decorations, up to the application of the brass, are carried out by hand in the workshop art Vangelista Mobili 1960 and resume the typicality of Venetian furnishings in the classic Louis XIV style. Lacquered with a black background, the black finish is applied from a resin obtained from a old chinese plant rediscovered in the Venetian workshops of the 1600s. The decorations of the sumptuous trumeau secretaire are performed with a complex technique, using a series of very fine brushes, and are enriched from "inclined net" workings. The light patination makes it very similar to the original artifact. The complexity of the hand-made decorations and the patient geometric gilding in gold leaf attest to the uniqueness of the precious handwork that only the artisan company Vangelista Mobili 1960 is able to perform. The handles, keys and escutcheons are made by a Venetian art foundry, which has been collaborating with our company for over 45 years, produced in solid brass cast on an earth mold with the lost wax technique, hand chiseled and cloth polished.

Model History

Century of use

This important trumeau-secretaire is decorated by hand with Chinoiserie according to the canons of the Venetian Louis XIV style and is reproduced from the period model of the second half of the 1600s. The Louis XIV style furniture is imposing and majestic, rich in inlays and decorations, often gilded and plated with polychrome woods. In the panorama of European influence on the development of Chinese fashion in Italy, Venice was an exception: open to oriental and Chinese influences since the time of Marco Polo, the Serenissima welcomed Chinese fashion with greater openness than any other Italian state, developing his own conception of chinoiserie. The furniture is one of the most complex pieces in our collection of seventeenth-century Venetian furniture.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

The original vintage model from the second half of the 1600s, of which the sumptuous trumeau full of drawers and secret compartments is a reproduction, is located in the interior halls of the elegant Palazzo Mocenigo in Venice.
