The frame is made of walnut wood surrounded by an elegant moulded cornice. The table is supported by 4 tapered legs whereas the legs are fastened through a strong tongue and groove joint. This piece of furniture is built with the same techniques in vogue during the 18th century. The table is handpolished with natural products, brown powder clays for the right shade established with transparent shellac applied with a brush and final protection with French walnut 97% virgin beeswax affixed with a soft cotton cloth. The wax is made of a turpentine solution, which is a semi-liquid natural mixture that gives an opaque look to the table and enhances the wonderful grain of the walnut wood. The original rectangular Louis XVI inlaid table in precious walnut root with 2 extensions dates back to the end of the 18th century.
The story of the reproduction of this table is curious. Fifteen years ago we visited the rectory of the Parish of San Gaetano Thiene in Valdagno to examine a room allocated to build a big library. While we were determining all dimensions, we moved a big table that was in the corner. We were immediately impressed by the elegant shape and the fine craftsmanship, with the inlaid top and the tapered legs. By courtesy of the parish priest we took detailed pictures and we sent them to one of our customers who was looking for a table with these features but with extensions and of large dimensions. We reproduced the table with the same shape and wood of the original table, with the dimensions that our customer had asked us. The great satisfaction of having fulfilled the request of our customer, and thecapability to reproduce an original table with the same techniques in vogue during the 18th century, make Vangelista Mobili 1960 one of the top companies in the luxury handcrafted furnishing, 100% made in Italy.
