Manufacture

The oval coffee table is designed, inlaid and polished by hand in the Vangelista Mobili 1960 high cabinet-making workshop. The oval shape of the top and the shaping of the legs have been detected on a cardboard panel, all the inlays have been drawn by hand and hand made with steel wire fretwork. This precious oval table is hand polished with natural products, painted with earth powders dissolved in water to obtain the desired shade, fixed with shellac paint applied with a brush and protected with straw oil and pumice stone powder, respecting the 22 steps of the Farsetti method, to highlight the warm veins of the essences and the chromaticity of the veins. The knobs are hand-chiseled in engraved brass and reproduced from the originals.

The inlaid oval coffee table is produced in the dimension: 43x32x66h.

Model History

Century of use

This elegant oval coffee table inlaid by hand with precious exotic essences is reproduced from the period artefact dating back to the end of 1700, in pure Neoclassical style.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

The original piece of this precious table was inlaid and built in the workshop of the master inlayer from Parabiago Giuseppe Maggiolini. Giuseppe Maggiolini was the main cabinetmaker of the late Baroque and above all Italian neoclassical current. Even if he is remembered as a "master of inlay" it is more correct to define him "master of cabinet making" since in the inlay other materials are placed side by side with the wood, such as ivory, while the cabinet-making involves the exclusive use of wood of different qualities and types. We detected the oval shape of the top and the shaping of the legs on a cardboard panel and then went on to draw all the inlays by hand. The result was excellent. Only by using the same processes used in the Venetian workshops of the 1700s we were able to reproduce this important table in Neoclassical style. The artisan company Vangelista Mobili 1960 is one of the rare companies that knows and studies the ancient cabinet making of Italian art furniture.
