Model Structure

The Venetian desk is inlaid in every part, including the internal space under the central drawer, suitable for hosting a chair or small armchair. The precious desk rests on a perimeter frame in solid walnut wood, with vertical grain. It has pendant-shaped brass handles.

Raw Material

Spruce for the internal structure, walnut burl and rosewood for the herringbone inlays, the external covering is in precious essence of walnut briar, flamed national walnut for the herringbone inlays and inlaid threads in rosewood. Brass for the handles and only natural products for polishing.

Manufacture

The production of this important bean-shaped desk highlights the qualities and artistic knowledge of Vangelista Mobili 1960, in constant search of the workings of past centuries to produce unique masterpieces in the world. The bean-shaped structure is made by means of shapes and counter shapes specially modeled in our laboratory. The desk is produced in its internal structure with vertical fir boards (5/6 centimeters wide) glued together and smoothed with a series of iron rasps to obtain the desired shape. The most complex part is undoubtedly the inlay, done by hand as in use in the workshops of the seventeenth century: the walnut root is glued with a thickness of three millimeters, worked symmetrically in all centers and surrounded with a refined fillet in bois de rose. The polishing is in essence, to highlight the splendid grain and chromaticity of the walnut root and rosewood and is done by hand. Even the handles, in the shape of a pendant, are reproduced from the originals: they are made of solid brass, cast on an earth mold with the lost wax technique and chiseled by hand. The inlaid desk in walnut and rosewood is reproduced from the period model dating back to the first half of the 1700s, coming from the Palazzo Ariani Minotto Cicogna in Venice.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

A few years ago the Superintendence of Fine Arts contacted us for the restoration of a period desk. With their kind permission and permission we have taken steps to detect all the shaped shapes of the top on cardboard, the dimensions of the structure, produced an accurate photographic material and studied all the details necessary for its perfect reproduction. The construction was long and complex because to reproduce this important Venetian bean-shaped desk it is necessary to have a long experience in the sector of the production of 18th century Venetian art furniture, an experience that Vangelista Mobili 1960 can rightly claim to have.
