Sophisticated vanity table – desk in walnut wood, with mirror and small drawers, with a flap tablet and inlaid with a thread in maple and bois de rose. The line of rounded corners and the refined sabre shaped legs are typical of the classic Asolean Venetian style, end of the 18th century from Vicenza. The original vanity table is at the palace of Scaglia di Verrua.

Model Description

Model Structure

The desktop of the centre room inlaid vanity table is divided by 3 tablets, of which the lateral ones open outwards with compartments for jewels and documents inside of it, whereas the central tablet opens upwards hiding within a mirror and a compartment. The frame is composed of 3 small drawers and a central removable tablet for makeup coated in green leather. The furniture is supported by 4 refined sabre shaped legs, typical of 18th century Vicentino craftsmanship, who hand-crafted amazing 18-th century Asolean Venetian furniture.

Raw Material

The inlaid vanity table - desk is made of precious walnut wood, embellished with a refined thread in white maple and exotic bois de rose. The removable tablet is coated in real green bovine leather. The handles of the drawers are in bronze, reproduced from the original desk.

Manufacture

The vanity table - desk in walnut wood, with a mirror and small drawers, is put together in its elements (frontal framework, sides, legs and back) with strong handmade mortise and tenon joints, whereas the inlaid thread which surrounds the desktop is 4 mm, thick. The sabre shaped legs are derived from solid walnut. The drawers are assembled with dovetail joints. The ring-shaped handles are made of bronze with the old technique of lost-wax casting, hand chiselled and hand polished. The desk is polished with techniques in vogue during the 18th century and natural products: powder of brown clay dissolved in water for the right shade, slightly antiqued with stone and established with shellac applied with a brush. Last but not least, the final step is the finishing with a pad. With a swab soaked with shellac and straw-yellow oil, the appearance of the desk is glossy thanks to circular and continuous motions to enhance the amazing grain and the chiaroscuro effect of the walnut and rose wood.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

The original Vanity table - desk in walnut wood, with mirror and small drawers was hand-crafted in classic 18th-century Asolean Venetian style in Villa Gazzotti in Bertesina, near Vicenza, a palladian monument made in the mid-16th century. We retrieved the furniture before the Villa was closed, to avoid the deterioration. The elegance of the lines, the small size, the originality and the strong demand make the vanity table ideal for bedrooms, entrances and closet and, moreover, the furniture is multifunctional as a makeup case, jewels case and small desk for offices, so we decided to reproduce it. The vanity table is perfect for both classic and modern furnishing, as a contrast. The construction is typical of Vicentino style when the craftsmen began to enlighten the furniture with supports. The original desk is in the hall of Palazzo Scaglia Verrua, Turin. Vangelista Mobili 1960 has reproduced the vanity table with the same features of the original, thanks to detailed pictures and technical dimensional drawings, for a desk 100% Made in Italy.
