Important solid linden sideboard notched and hand painted in 18th century French Provençal style. The soft color of the sugar paper blue structure and the profiles of the frames gilded in gold leaf strongly highlight the decorations, with scepter motifs embroidered with Baroque designs, of the doors and sides. The Provençal sideboard is reproduced from a period artefact dating back to the first half of the 1700s and can be placed in luxury entrance halls and prestigious dining rooms.

Model Description

Model Structure

The structure of the Provençal sideboard has a rounded shape in the two external corners and is equipped with three doors and 3 drawers framed by an elegant relief molding. The piece of furniture rests on a closed perimeter plinth, lightened by a thin frame. The top is embellished in its perimeter edge by an elegant "owl beak" workmanship which lightens its shape. The blue sugar paper lacquering takes up the typical delicate colors typical of the furnishings of the south of France, the internal panels of the doors and drawers are in a patinated white tone with the gilded frames in unused gold leaf. In the panel of the doors we have represented refined decorations with a scepter surrounded by ocher yellow baroques performed on a background in beige tones. Decorations are present on the doors, on the central panel of the drawers and on the sides. The harmony of soft colors is interrupted by gold leaf details.

Raw Material

The Provençal sideboard is made of solid linden wood, an essence that lends itself very well to the application of lacquer. The back, the internal bottom of the drawers and the shelves are in solid fir.

Manufacture

The sideboard is designed, built, lacquered and painted by hand in the Vangelista Mobili 1960 workshop. The uniqueness of our expertise in the production of Provençal style furniture derives from a long and in-depth study of the French decorations and lacquers applied in the 18th century, for which we have taken up and apply the same processes of the craft workshops of the time, thus reviving on our artifacts the splendid Provençal paintings. The lacquering and decorations are done by hand with natural products; the sideboard is lacquered by applying a "Gesso di Bologna" primer and subsequently the water-based tempera colours. Even the colors are created and mixed in our laboratory: the sugar paper blue colour, obtained by mixing grey, blue and white tempera, is then applied with a series of different brushes, also used for the decorations. All the decorations are lightly patinated with brown earth powders.

This artifact has been studied by us in the smallest details, and given the strong request we have received from our customers, we have refined the techniques used in the original model so as to revive the same sensations and emotions that this splendid creation of the craft shops of the south of France gave in its time.
