Model Description

Model Structure

The frame of the corner unit has 2 notched vertical sides, a central leaf door assembled with a framework which separates the panels in 2 parts, and the “s” shaped cornice on the top embellishes all the structure; the supporting legs in the front are tall and finely shaped. Inside the corner unit, there are adjustable shelves as a pantry.

Raw Material

The corner unit is entirely made of solid spruce wood, as in vogue in the 17th century, perfect for lacquering thanks to the compact and soft fibre which doesn’t change over time. The hinges and locks are made of hot-forged iron and hand-chiselled with the same shape and working process of the 17th century.

Manufacture

The frame of the handpainted 18th-century Baroque Tyrolean single leaf door corner unit with 2 polychrome seasons is assembled by mortise and tenon joints, the upper cornice is “s” shaped with an apposite milling cutter and the legs are shaped by solid spruce wood. The legs are assembled on the frame with dowels joint. The leaf door has 2 central panels surrounded by a diamond milled shape. The most complicated step is the decoration: the furniture is lacquered with consumed “gesso Bologna” for a old fashioned look. The corner unit is decorated with water-based temperas and brushes of various thickness, the panels are decorated with 2 polychrome seasons, summer and winter, that show mountain landscapes of Trentino-Alto Adige, second half of the 17th century. The corner unit is painted with top quality Tyrolean lacquers like yellow, ochre, light blue, red and green. The plan and framework’s outline are painted in light blue, in contrast with the avio shaped cornice, bands and legs. The decorations are coated with brown clays established with a transparent shellac applied with a brush and final protection with French white virgin beeswax. The furniture is handcrafted and decorated in our art laboratory Vangelista Mobili 1960.

The handpainted 18th-century Baroque Tyrolean single leaf door corner unit with 2 polychrome seasons is a faithful replica of the original, dating back to the second half of the 17th century.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

During our visit to Castle Malgolo, the private residence of the Premolis, in Romeno (Trentino Alto Adige), we noticed a couple of beautiful corner units with 2 polychrome seasons in the salon. The owners told us that the original units were produced in Val di Cembra, in the second half of the 17th century. Given the great demand of our customers, we have retrieved some precious material thanks to the owners, so that we can reproduce the corner unit in the right way: the shape of the legs and the outline on plywood , detailed pictures and technical dimensional drawings. Vangelista Mobili 1960 is one of the few companies able to reproduce all the furniture with the same techniques used in the 17th century, in order to give to the clientele amazing handmade reproductions, 100% Made in Italy.
