Big Tyrolean hand-decorated chest with a lifting floor for luxurious mountain homes, 18th century style. The chest is hand-crafted and hand-decorated in Vangelista Mobili 1960’s art laboratory, 100% Made in Italy.
The big Tyrolean hand-decorated chest with a lifting floor for luxurious mountain homes is available also with a fixed door and the frontal flap or a double leaf door sideboard used as a Tv-stand or spirits cupboard.
The big Tyrolean hand-decorated chest with a lifting floor for luxurious mountain homes is made of solid spruce wood, typical of mountain furniture, perfect for tempera lacquering and emphasized grain (and knots, too).
The chest is assembled with strong tongue and groove joints, with spruce axes stuck together by a slot-in joint system to preserve stability over time. The shape of skirting is the main aspect of this chest, with a mixtilinear and "soft" profile that lightens the structure and recalls the typical furniture of Trentino Alto Adige. The sides are processed with an outer cornice finely shaped and, in the middle, there is a diamond shaped cornice, as in vogue for mountain furniture during the 18th century. The floor lifts thanks to 2 strong hot-iron forged hinges reproduced from the original. The most difficult step is the decoration; the chest is lacquered with polychrome natural water-based temperas on a "gesso Bologna" basis, consumed and coated with brown powder clays for an antique and worn look. Then, there is the hand-painting with brushes of different sizes. The furniture is lacquered in the background with beige and creamy white, in contrast with fern green; the baroque decorations are made in yellow gamboge embellished with vegetal and floral illustrations in bright colours. The central diamond is emphasized with the beautiful decoration of the jumping deer of Val Pusteria.
Handcrafted in 2 sizes 110x51x68h. – 130x57x74h., the chest is customizable for dimension, structure, colours and decorations.
The original baroque Tyrolean chest dates back to the second half of the 17th century. The original artifact was built and decorated in an artisan workshop in the splendid Val Pusteria in Trentino-Alto Adige.
When we visited an old farm in the fabulous Val Pusteria, we immediately noticed the original hand-decorated chest in the bedroom, finely decorated but with parts of lacquering missing. At the request of the owners, we re-established the missing lacquer with the same colour as the original. When we finished restoring the furniture, we decided to handcraft a faithful reproduction thanks to dimensional technical drawings, tracking of the cornice and skirting and detailed pictures. One of the main principles of Vangelista Mobili is to maintain craftsmanship used in the past centuries to satisfy a clientele demanding for high aesthetic quality products. The chest is handcrafted in Vangelista Mobili 1960's art laboratory 100% Made in Italy, and it is ideal for large entrances.
