Model Description

Model Structure

The medieval Emilian refectory table in walnut wood with lyre legs is in a rectangular shape, with 2 legs linked together with a framework and inclined like the original Emilian tables, supported by an elegant horizontal crossbeam and 2 bands that fasten the legs with the top.

Raw Material

The medieval Emilian refectory table with lyre legs is made of solid walnut wood, very strong and resistant.

Manufacture

The medieval Emilian refectory table in walnut wood with lyre legs is in a rectangular shape, with walnut boards 3,5 cm thick linked together by a “T” shaped joint, strong and resistant, not allowing the boards to expand. The top is supported by legs with an inclined framework and lyre-shaped. The legs are fastened to the top with solid joints made of wooden nails stuck together, a horizontal crossbeam and 2 vertical bands that fix the legs to the top, planed by hand for an old-fashioned and worn look. According to our information, the horizontal crossbeam was necessary to let the diners put their feet on it. The table is hand polished with natural products, colour dark opaque brown – with brown clay dissolved in water to obtain the right shade – antiqued and consumed by stone and rasp to make it look like the original furniture; last, but not least, the finishing is established by shellac (3 coats) and protected with dark brown virgin beeswax applied with a soft cotton cloth. The table is handcrafted with the same technique in vogue during the 17th century. This item is designed, built and polished in Vangelista Mobili 1960’s art laboratory.

Size of the model in the picture

Built in 2 sizes 180x90x78h. – 200x100x78h., the table is handcrafted and customizable for dimension, type of food and polishing.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

During our visit to the majestic castle of Rivalta, in the province of Piacenza, we noticed in the saloon a precious and rare couple of tables with lyre legs. The staff told us the story of the furniture: during the Italian expedition by Napoleon at the end of the 18th century the troops used these tables to lay the dishes – there are still some tears caused by the cutlery. Over the years these lacerations blackened because of the dirt and dust, giving an antiqued look to the table. We were impressed by the original shape of the lyre legs and the whole structure so, by courtesy of the owner, we decided to reproduce the table achieving the right dimensions and we traced the shape of the legs and the outline on plywood, detailed pictures and technical dimensional drawings. The refectory table is versatile and ideal for amazing entrances, dining rooms and at the rear of the sofa. for spirits. The table is ideal both for classic and modern furnishings as an element of contrast. Vangelista Mobili 1960 keeps looking for elegant and refined furniture, to satisfy a high-demanding clientele asking for luxurious and precious classic furniture. 100% made in Italy.
