Model Structure

The English Victorian coffee table is round, the belt under the countertop is assembled with 4 shaped drawers, supported in the middle by a hand-turned big leg whereas the final part is softened by 4 "ray" shaped brackets. The lines and the shapes are the same as the original table.

Raw Material

The round English Victorian coffee table with 4 drawers is made of solid walnut, whereas the inside of the drawers is made of limewood.

Manufacture

The round English Victorian coffee table with 4 drawers is assembled with a round countertop inlaid with the gorgeous flamed walnut (3 mm thick veneering) in orange-wedge, the outline is in solid walnut and processed in an owl-beak profile. The frame is shaped with the same round outline used for the countertop in solid walnut, with 4 symmetrical drawers and supported by a big leg in the middle turned by hand in an elegant mixtilinear shape. The shape of the leg and the brackets is the same as the original English table. The coffee table is assembled with tongue and groove joints and the counterop with the big leg is attached with a strong and removable "cruise" to simplify the transportation. The following step is the finishing with natural products and techniques used by English craftsmen during the 19thcentury, natural clay dissolved in water to obrain the right colour, antiqued by stone and established by transparent shellac applied with a brush; the final protection by wick enhances the walnut's shades and grains. The polishing is made in 12 applications, with a soft cotton cloth soaked in shellac and straw yellow oil with powder of pumice stone, as in vogue in all workshops in the 18th century.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

The reproduction of this table is quite curious. During our trip to London, we visited the famous Old Spitalfields Market and we noticed a round table, at a vendor, on which there were silverware and precious porcelain. We asked to closely examine the coffee table and we decided to buy it, thanks to its original shape. When the table arrived at our laboratory, our priority was to retrieve all necessary characteristics to reproduce it, that is the round shape and technical dimensional drawings. For several years we have been reproducing this table in many dimensions for entrances and living rooms in a lot of elegant and sophisticated houses. The aim of our company is to keep crafting masterpieces of furniture, and be a reference in handcrafted luxury made in Italy, that needs to be preserved and passed on future generations. The coffee table is designed, handcrafted, inlaid and polished by Vangelista Mobili 1960.
