Model Description

Model Structure

The structure of the chest of drawers, with its austere shape in Louis XVI style, is supported by four spiked legs. The drawer handles are round in shape. Arranged with a first upper drawer and 6 lower drawers of equal height.

Raw Material

The weekly chest of drawers is made of precious solid cherry wood, the interiors of the drawers and the back are in ash wood. The handles are made of brass.

Manufacture

The drawers are worked with dovetail joints, while the back is assembled with a cross frame, which increases the value of the piece of furniture. The round-shaped handles are made of hot-cast brass on an earth mold with the ancient lost wax technique, reproduced from the original Direttorio style model. The polishing is done by hand with natural products, slightly aged in the most exposed and protruding parts. The shellac varnish is applied with a brush and protected with virgin beeswax.

Size of the model in the picture

The chest of drawers is produced in a large size of cm. 79X47x138h. The smaller version refers to article 737.

Model History

Century of use

The austere shape of the structure supported by 4 legs in the shape of an inverted truncated pyramid determines the typicality of the Louis XVI Direttorio style. The Direttorio style was in vogue in France between 1795 and 1803. It is characterized by a sober construction and simple and linear shapes. The weekly chest of drawers is reproduced from the original model which is located in the province of Vicenza and dates back to the end of 1700.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

Vangelista Mobili 1960 has been producing this model of weekly chest of drawers in its artisan workshop for more than 50 years. In the 70s and 80s it was used as a bathroom furniture to contain linen and towels, while now it is strongly requested by our customers for the bedroom, supplied in pairs as a replacement for the classic chest of drawers. The quality of the workmanship and the use of noble essences such as cherry and ash make it a valuable piece of furniture.
