Model Structure

The big desk is in a rectangular shape and it is designed and hand-crafted as a centre room desk – that is all 4 sides well refined with 9 drawers in the front, 2 removable plans besides the desktop as support for books. The 4 supporting legs are tapered shaped. The two lateral blocks with drawers come down until about the floor, whereas the middle section with 1 drawer is open so that it is possible to easily enter with a chair or an armchair.

Raw Material

The real leather inserts are made of full grain leather (best quality) in English green colour. The handlers are in bronze poured in casting moulds, like the handlers of the original end-18th century.

Manufacture

The desktop is assembled with a framework joined by a “milling machine” joint, embellished in the edge with a “U” shaped tillage. The main feature of this desktop is the 3 real leather inserts in English green bovine leather, surrounded by a hot-hammered fillet in gold-leaf with a sophisticated vegetal pattern. The framework of the frontal section is assembled with sides by solid and strong mortise and tenon joints. The back is bordered by boxes with the same decorations of the drawers. The legs are made of solid cherry wood and tapered, in Luigi XVI style. The big file case drawers are enriched by an elegant cornice on the outside and put together with strong dovetail joints and “diamond” milled. The desk is polished with shellac applied with a cloth to enhance the grain and red shades of the precious cherry wood. The rounded handlers are handcrafted with the same processing of the 15th century, bronze poured in casting moulds, to obtain the right shape, hand-chiselled and polished with a cotton cloth. The processing of this important and precious Luigi XVI style centre room desk for classic offices in cherry wood with 9 drawers and real leather inserts is interesting: having visited our customer’s notary office who wanted to reproduce an old bookcase, we were fascinated the original Luigi XVI desk. In the same period another customer had ordered a Luigi XVI desk, so the notary gave us the permission to draw the silhouette, take pictures and make technical dimensional drawings in order to handcraft a perfect reproduction. The style, the choice of cherry wood and the rounded handlers are typical of end-18th century Vicentino craftsmen, in fact, the original desk was handcrafted in Valdagno, Northern Vicentino. The result is this sophisticated and customizable desk with real leather inserts, luxury 100% Made in Italy.
