Model Description

Model Structure

The frame has 5 small shaped drawers and a central removable tablet and it is rounded on all sides so that the desk is perfect for centre room furnishing. It is supported by 4 cabriole shaped legs and the main feature of this furniture is the shaping of the frame's profile. The desk is ideal both for modern furnishing, as a contrast, and classic furniture in Venetian style.

Raw Material

The inside of the small Baroque Venetian '700 Luigi XV style desk in walnut-root, inlaid in bois de rose is made of solid spruce wood (typically used in the 18th century to handcraft shaped and rounded furniture), the external coating is veneered with a 4 mm. thick layer in streaked walnut, Ferrarese root and an inlaid thread in exotic rose wood. The handles are in bronze poured in casting moulds, reproduced from the original desk.

Manufacture

The small Baroque Venetian '700 Luigi XV style desk in walnut-root, inlaid in bois de rose with 5 drawers is assembled with staves (vertical wooden axes of 8-10 cm) shaped to have the right shape. The axes are put together by natural glues to develop the frame, smoothed with rasps and abrasive papers to smooth the surface. The desk is veneered with precious and rare woods with natural glue and established on the solid spruce wood with small mild steel nails bent on themselves. When the veneering is fixed, the desk is cleaned to remove all defects and differences to the touch, polished with the same working process in vogue in Venetian 18th century with natural products and painted with water-based natural clays for the right shade the desk is antiqued in all the protruding parts with stone and established with shellac applied with a brush. Protected by French virgin beeswax applied with a soft cotton cloth. The hand polishing with shellac highlights the warm walnut and the result is a massive visual impact of this desk. The handles are made with bronze poured in casting moulds, with the ancient lost-wax casting technique, hand-chiselled and hand polished with a cloth.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

We fell in love with the original desk, which is in the upper hall of Palazzo Ca’ Rezzonico, in Venice. We tracked the outline on plywood, took pictures and made technical dimensional drawings for a faithful reproduction of the small Baroque Venetian '700 Luigi XV style desk in walnut-root, inlaid in bois de rose, with the same techniques of the period. Thanks to our great experience and passion for classic Venetian furnishing, we are able to handcraft precious products, 100% Made in Italy.
