Model Description

Model Structure

The structure with three drawers has a curved shape both vertically and horizontally in the front and sides, with the supporting legs finely shaped and connected by a mixtilinear band on the front and side. It is built internally of solid spruce wood, worked with vertical shafts, shaped and polished to give the desired shape. The chest of drawers is covered with a 4 mm slab of precious essences of flamed walnut arranged to "herringbone", with in the centers a splendid and precious rare stain of Ferrarese walnut worked specular as in use by the eighteenth century Venetian cabinet makers. It is embellished in the drawers and in the top by an inlaid rose wood thread, also used in the inlaid thread of the extreme profile of the 2 legs. The interiors of the drawers are realized with handmade "dovetail" joints.

Raw Material

The chest of drawers is veneered with 4 mm. of precious essences of flamed walnut and ferrarese walnut briar root in the centers. Fillet and cord are inlaid with rose wood. The handles are in cast bronze, made on the ground mold. Natural soils have been used for polishing. The radiant luxury dresser is antiqued with stone, fixed with shellac spread with a brush and polished pumice stone.

Manufacture

The chest of drawers is completely handmade according to the techniques used by the eighteenth century Venetian cabinet makers. The interiors of the drawers are realized with handmade "dovetail" joints. The "half moon" handles are in cast bronze made on the ground mold, reproduced from the original Louis XV style, chiseled and polished by hand. Polished with natural water based surfaces, the dresser is antiqued with stone, fixed with shellac applied with a brush and polished with rubbed and pumice stone. The final polishing phase highlights the transparency and the wonderful grains and chromatisms of the walnut root.

Century of use

Faithfully reproduced in pure XVII century Baroque Venetian style, the original chest of drawers is placed in the splendid Renaissance residence of Palazzo Grimani, in Venice.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

The history of reproduction of this splendid dresser is quite unique. One of our customers, a lover of 18th century Venetian furniture, who visited Palazzo Grimani after a long restoration, was fascinated by an original chest of drawers with 3 drawers, which he promptly photographed. From the photos of the original artifact, we have succeeded in reproducing the chest of drawers by creating special shapes on plywood, drawn by hand. With the passion for our work, the love for Venetian furniture of the eighteenth century and the strong knowledge of the work of eighteenth-century cabinetmakers, we were able to faithfully reproduce this important luxury dresser.
