Model Description

Model Structure

The 17th-century Baroque Tyrolean corner unit, hand-decorated with flowers and baroques has a single leaf door assembled by framework and divided into 2 panels. The frame is notched and edged by an upper moulded cornice and an open clog with an "s" shape in the lower part. In the inner part, there are some removable shelves used as a pantry. The whole structure is hand-crafted with the same lines of the majestic furniture from Val di Fassa.

Raw Material

The corner unit is made of solid spruce wood, used for decorated furniture because it is perfect to apply lacquers; moreover, in the 17th century, there were a lot of spruce woods in Trentino-Alto Adige.

Manufacture

The corner unit is assembled with strong lap joints, obtained from a slot in joint system. The frame is notched, the leaf door is assembled by framework and divided into 2 panels, surrounded by a diamond shaped outline. The profile of the leaf door is shaped and seals the frame's hole. The skirting is crowned by an elegant moulded cornice and the clog is strongly fixed ti the frame with oak nails. The furniture is mounted with natural glues. The most difficult part is the decoration: the furniture is lacquered with consumed “gesso Bologna”, a semi-liquid mixture spread with a palette knife and dried. The corner unit is decorated with water-based polychrome temperas applied with brushes of various thickness and the paintings of the 2 central panels show a rectangular geometric pattern with a flower vase in the middle, with a beige background. There are the same decorations on the notched bands, too, with a light blue background. The outline of the cornice and the clog are plum red, in contrast with the soft colours of the furniture. The old-fashioned look is created with the coating of natural clays that penetrate the mixture's depressions, the decorations are established by a water-based tempera applied with a brush and finally protected with a white French virgin beeswax, applied with a soft cotton cloth.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

The story behind the reproduction of this precious corner unit is curious; some years ago, one of our customers who has a precious chalet in Predazzo, Val di Fiemme, asked us to restore the painting of a beautiful and precious corner unit of the 17th century. When our customer brought the furniture to our laboratory, we asked him to reproduce it for our clientele. By his courtesy, we retrieved the most important details that we needed: the shape of the legs and the outline, detailed pictures and technical dimensional drawings. Our customer was impressed by the reproduction, so he decided to buy the furniture and put it in its chalet's furnishing, as a pantry. The love and passion for the mountain furnishing lead us to look for antique products to reproduce and customize in the art laboratory of the precious brand Vangelista Mobili 1960, 100% Made in Italy.
