Model Description

Model Structure

The rectangular inlaid '700 Asolean Venetian style writing desk has 3 drawers all over its length and a removable tablet in the middle as a book support. The band of the drawers is embellished with an "S" shaping and the frame is supported by 4 finely sabre shaped legs. It is perfect as centre room desk for living rooms and entry but also as a writing desk for an office with classic furnishing.

Raw Material

The desktop and the band of the drawers are veneered with walnut (with a thickness of 4 mm). The shaped legs are made of walnut and the inside of drawers is made of solid spruce wood. The handles are made of bronze poured in casting moulds like the original.

Manufacture

The desktop is veneered in flamed walnut with trunk effect (alternating between yellow and hazelnut chromatisms) and embellished with an inlaid thread in precious olive wood with longitudinal grain all over the interior band. Under the desktop, there is an "s" shaped band surrounding all sides in walnut wood with vertical grain. The desk is embellished by 3 big drawers. The supporting sabre shaped legs are derived from walnut wood. The main feature of this desk are the amazing and elegant inlays both on the desk's edge and on drawers' perimeter, alternating maple and rosewood arranged in herringbone style. The desktop is hand smoothed before the polishing and the smoothing gives the furniture an old-fashioned and worn look. The oval handles are in typical Vicentino style reproduced with bronze poured in casting moulds, with the old lost-wax casting technique, chiselled and polished by hand. The desk is polished in opal brown walnut with natural clays dissolved in water for the right shade, slightly hand-antiqued with stone, established by shellac (flakes derived from a plant with residuals of insect secretions) melted in water and applied with a brush. The desk is finally protected with a brown walnut virgin beeswax, applied with a cotton cloth. The polishing with beeswax and natural products gives the desk a warm appearance and highlights the wonderful grain of walnut.

The original '700 Asolean Venetian style writing desk is on the upper floor of Palazzo Chiericati, Vicenza, and it was used as a centre room desk. We have noticed the originality of this inlaid writing desk in walnut and rare woods with 3 drawers and sabre shaped and decided to reproduce it for our customers, Thanks to the legs tracking on plywood, detailed pictures and technical dimensional drawings - very important for furniture's reproduction - we have handcrafted a perfect reproduction of this desk.
