Raw Material

The English Victorian extendable rectangular table with handle and sliding wheels made is made of precious walnut wood, whereas the top, the extensions and the bands under the top are veneered in falmed walnut 3mm thick; in the inside, it is made of solid spruce wood. The legs are made of wanut wood and the handle is in hand-forged iron.

Manufacture

The top and the extensions of the English Victorian extendable rectangular table with handle and sliding wheels made are 4 mm. thick, the outline is moulded with “double cyma and torus” milling, with a special moulding machine to evoke the original shaping, the external corners are finely rounded whereas the top and the extensions are enriched by an inlaid thread made of olive wood with vertical grain. The framework is veneered in walnut wood with a precious head grain. The legs, which are fastened to the frame through a cylindric joint made of oak, very strong and resistant, are turned and embellished by the typical wood working of English furniture. The table is highly demanded thanks to the handle in clockwise direction on the narrower side, that makes possible to extend it through a central screw in the inside. Under the legs there are 4 fixed brass wheels so that the whole structure is able to slide and, when the table is open, the extensions are easily inserted with a joint. This manual method of stretching is easy and ideal for large tables. The table is hand-polished with natural products, in glossy walnut color with natural earth powders to obtain the right shade, hand-antiqued in the protruding parts, fixed with shellac paint applied by brush and protected with a wick to enhance the beautiful veins and walnut colors.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

Some decades ago one of our customers came to our laboratory with some pictures of a English Victorian extendable rectangular table and asked us to reproduce it for his conference room. Given the elegance of the table we decided to reproduce it and we embellished the top and the extensions with an inlaid thread in olive wood. Over the years, we reproduced the table in many dimensions, type of woods – cherry, oak, mahogany and lime (economic wood perfect for lacquering) – and a lot of polishings: natural, bleached, brushed, glossy, opaque, antiqued with a classic finishing.
