Oval expandable inlaid table in walnut wood and supported by 4 Empire-style shaped legs, for big halls and dining rooms in luxury houses. The table is perfect for classic and contemporary furnishing, as a contrast.

Model Description

Model Structure

The table is oval, its structure is expandable from the middle towards the outside with 3 extensions. The clean and refined line is the same as the original Empire-style table.

Raw Material

The top, the extensions and the band of the table are made of flamed walnut, veneered with a thickness 3 mm., whereas the supporting legs are in walnut wood. The internal exteding structure is made of solid ash wood.

The top and the extensions of the oval expandable inlaid table are veneered in flamed walnut with a thickness of 3 mm and herring-bone processed, the band on the outline is made of streaked walnut and embellished by a thin inlaid thread in the exotic padouk wood (tending to bright red) and maple, and then veneered on 3-layers solid spruce wood, to keep the furniture stable over time. The bands under the top are made of streaked walnut, embellished by an elegant cornice and they are stuck together to the 4 legs through some strong tongue and groove joints. The table’s structure expands from the centre to outwards through sliding systems fastened with a dovetail joint made of ash wood – strong and stable over time, free from deterioration. The item is hand-crafted with a brown polishing with natural brown clays for the right colour and it is antiqued with stone in the protruding parts; the colour is finally established with shellac paint (a natural paint tending to amber brown obtained from an extract of a plant’s root and dissolved in a 99% alcohol solution), applied with a brush and final protection with a pad soaked in straw yellow oil and pumice stone’s powder, applied with 9 circular passages for a glossy and elegant look. The oval expandable inlaid table is hand-crafted, assembled and polished in Vangelista Mobili 1960’s art laboratory.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

About 15 years a customer came to our laboratory with some pictures of an original table with a herringbone inlaid top and asked us an equal one for his big dining room. We retrieved from a picture the shape of the top and legs on a plywood and, after making technical dimensional drawings, we reproduced an amazing and refined table which is still one of our leading products so that we build it in 3 sizes. Vangelista Mobili 1960 is one of the most important companies for reproducing luxury furniture, keeping the handcraft tradition 100% alive.
