MODEL STRUCTURE
Precious ‘600 Venetian Luigi XIV hand-decorated Chinoiserie Secretaire Trumeau with a flap has 2 bodies with squared lines, recalling the typical furniture style of the 17th century. The base has 3 big drawers and a huge flap held up by 2 removable supports and hiding within some small drawers and secret compartments. The supporting legs in classic Luigi XIV style are turned by hand. The upper part (shelf) has 2 closed shutters. The elegant cornice on the top is moulded with a “double cyma” shaping. The sides are straight so that the decorations by hand can best be designed. Inside the flap and in the upper part, there are a lot of Chinoiserie hand-decorations.
RAW MATERIAL
The ‘600 Venetian Luigi XIV hand-decorated Chinoiserie trumeau with a flap is made of limewood, soft and solid fibre, resistant to temperature inversions in residencies and perfect to manufacture decorated furniture.
THE PROCESSINGS
The decorations express the complexity and the visual and aesthetic impact raised by this ‘600 Venetian Luigi XIV hand-decorated Chinoiserie secretaire trumeau with a flap. 6 layers of Venetian black lacquer are applied on raw wood until 2 mm of thickness are reached. Each coat must have dried, before applying the next one. Lacquering and decorations are hand-made with a number of basic brushes with a fine thickness. The decorations show scenes of oriental life, Mandarins, exotic trees and arabesques, from 15-th to 16th-century b.C. When the decoration is done, the trumeau is polished and protected with a resin dissolved in alcohol: the sandarac. The materials and natural essences, in addition to decorations, express the importance and value of lacquering.

This is a faithful reproduction of ‘600 Venetian Luigi XIV hand-decorated Chinoiserie secretaire trumeau with a flap. The original Venetian Rococò Luigi XIV style dates back to the mid-17th century.

After a few centuries of trading with the Far East, in the 16th century, the Serenissima Republic of Venice began to feel its influence, especially from China, so the Chinese ornamental and decorative techniques strongly became part of Rococò style. The original ‘600 Venetian Luigi XIV hand-decorated Chinoiserie secretaire trumeau with a flap is part of a collection in Piero Accorsi museum, in Turin.
