Model Description

Model Structure

The round transitional 19th-century style table with hand-carved feet has a circular shaped top, fastened through a frame and supported by a central turned cylindrical column, the lower part is assembled with a shaped cornice which surrounds all the outline whereas the base is supported by 4 carved feet, typical of the precious Transitional furniture.

Raw Material

The top and the frame of the table are made of lime wood and veneered with an inlay in a thickness of 3 mm in rare and precious olive wood – like the column and the feet. Limewood has no knots, so it is perfect to be turned and inlaid.

Manufacture

The top and the frame of the round transitional 19th-century style table with hand-carved feet are made of lime in veneered layers, with a thickness of 3 mm in precious and rare olive root, processed in specular book-match in the 4 central sections for a beautiful symmetric pattern, that makes more precious the product. The cylindrical column in the middle is hand-turned and completed by an amazing cornice which surrounds the column’s outline. The base of the column is veneered in olive root, like the top, and supported by 4 hand-carved feet from a piece of solid lime wood. The feet are fastened to the base through cylinder-shaped joints made of oak. The table is hand-polished with natural products, the elements in root are refined with shellac and a honey colour wick to enhance the beauty of olive whereas the edge of the top, the column and the feet are lacquered in glossy black. The customers can choose the favourite finishing after seeing the raw product in our laboratory.

Size of the model in the picture

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

Few decades ago we went to Pavia, in the main square of Vittoria, to visit the old palace Broletto (dating back to the 13th century) and in the middle of the big salon we noticed a big round table in Transitional style. According to the staff, initially there were two tables but one of them was subsequently sold to a famous antiquarian from Milan during the First World War. Given the originality of the table, the elegance of inlays and the olive root, we soon decided to reproduce it. By courtesy of the owners, we took detailed pictures and traced all the necessary shapes. We decided to handcraft the table in 2 sizes, to satisfy the strong demand of our customers, and being another time proud of our exclusive products. The table is designed, handcrafted, inlaid and polished in Vangelista Mobili 1960’s art laboratory.
