RAW MATERIAL

Alpine Baroque corner cabinet in solid fir, inspired by a piece from the Val Badia region, custom-made in the Vangelista 1960 high-quality cabinetry workshop. Hand-painted with polychrome motifs and seasonal scenes, it combines Alpine tradition with Italian artisanal craftsmanship.

THE PROCESSINGS

The cabinet body is crafted using solid mortise and tenon joints, while the legs are hand-shaped from a single piece of solid fir. The profiled frame is made with a specially designed steel router. The door features a traditional frame with two internal panels outlined by a diamond-shaped molding and is secured with a vertical rod lock to ensure a tight closure. The most complex and important part of the process is the decoration: a base coat of Bologna plaster, semi-liquid and applied with a brush, is distressed to create small depressions for applying natural earth patinas. The surfaces are then painted with water-based tempera using brushes of various sizes. The cabinet body is finished in a soft blue and enriched on the side pillars with cascading floral motifs. The door is painted in aqua green with the diamond-shaped panel borders in ochre yellow, creating a vivid contrast that highlights the decorations. The two central panels feature autumn and winter scenes within oval frames, depicting traditional mountain peasant life from 18th-century Trentino. The meticulous decoration and carefully applied earth patina are entirely done by hand, without using powders. The painted details are fixed with transparent French shellac applied by brush, and the final protection is provided by 97% pure beeswax, applied with a soft cotton cloth.

History Model

CENTURY OF USE

The original corner cabinet, decorated in 18th-century Alpine Baroque style, dates back to the late 17th century. This model faithfully reproduces the shapes and decorations typical of Tyrolean art of the period, reinterpreted using contemporary artisanal techniques.

HISTORICAL NOTES AND CURIOSITIES OF MOBILE

The Alpine Baroque corner cabinet was reproduced from a valuable example found in an old residence in the Val Badia, in the heart of the South Tyrolean Dolomites. The original piece, dating back to the late 1700s, belonged to a wealthy peasant family and featured the typical polychrome decorations of Ladin art from the period: vibrant colors, cascading floral motifs, and symbolic figures representing the seasonal cycle. According to local archives, the piece was created by a traveling decorator known as “Mastro Jachem de La Val”, one of the few craftsmen in the area specialized in painting furniture for mountain homes. Despite the wear of time, the cabinet still retained traces of the original natural tempera paints and a hand-worked solid fir structure. The masters of the Vangelista 1960 high-quality cabinetry workshop studied this rare example of Alpine furniture and created a faithful, custom-made reinterpretation, entirely hand-painted using historical techniques. The result is a corner cabinet that combines the elegance of Val Badia Alpine Baroque with Italian artisanal craftsmanship, transforming an antique model into a masterpiece designed to last for generations.
