Model Description

Model Structure

The rectangular desk has all corners slightly notched and a base topped by a cornice surrounding all the lower part outline. The front has 11 drawers, whereas under the desktop, on both sides, there are 2 removable tablets as a book support. The sides are assembled by framework whereas the back has the same inlaid pattern as the front. The desktop is embellished by a moulded "u" shaped profile and 3 real leather inserts.

Raw Material

This luxury centre room desk is made of precious cherry wood (used by Lombard craftsmen in Lombard-Venetian Direttorio style period), the inlays on the drawers and on the back are veneered in cherry wood (with a thickness of 4 mm), the inside of drawers are made of ash, which is compact and strong. The handles are made of bronze, in line with Lombard-Venetian Direttorio style. The inserts on the desktop are made of real English green bovine leather (customers can choose the colour of the leather).

Manufacture

The luxury centre room desk is assembled by mortise and tenon joints in the front and sides, while the drawers have inlaid panelings inside the framework. The inlays of the drawers and on the back are in cherry wood, in herringbone, and the chiaroscuro effect is enhanced by the inlaid pattern at 45 degrees. The drawers are enlightened by a small "double torus" small cornice surrounding all the perimeter and put toether by dovetail joints and diamond shaped. The vertical notching of the corners are embellished by a milling machine with 3 curved profiles. The main feature of the furniture is the secret compartment in the back, to keep files or jewels. The hand polishing with natural products gives the desk a warm and old-fashioned look. Refined with shellac applied with a brush, straw-yellow oil and pumice stone. The squared handles are handmade by bronze poured in casting moulds with the technique of lost-wax casting, chiselled and polished with a soft cotton cloth. The real leather inserts are hammered and pressed; last but not least an inlaid gold leaf thread with a vegetal pattern is hot-pressed.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

The original of this majestic and precious reproduction is in the private collection of Accorsi - Ometto museum, Turin. One of our customers, having visited the museum, noticed the desk and asked us to reproduce the desk for his office with the right size. With kind permission of the museum, we have tracked the outline of the cornice and the base on plywood and created specific milling machines with the same profiles as the original furniture, thanks to technical dimensional drawings and detailed pictures.
