Model Structure

The structure of the bureau secretaire desk has 2 small drawers in the upper part and 2 large drawers in the lower part. The legs are shaped in the shape of a pin at the bottom, according to the fashion of Italian Empire style furnishings. It has a shaped flap in the shape of a roller or cylinder, which rotates on itself to re-enter. The interior conceals a series of small drawers for objects or jewels and a compartment for cards, further enriched by a pull-out top for reading or PC holder.

Raw Material

The cylinder chest of drawers is handmade with a precious essence of solid cherry, while the interiors are in precious solid ash wood. The refined round handles are in bronze cast on an earth mold.

Manufacture

The made in Italy bureau secretaire cylinder desk is handcrafted and polished in the Vangelista Mobili 1960 workshop. The legs are made from a piece of solid cherry and shaped in the shape of a pin in the lower part. The sides are built with a frame, a type of processing that increases the value of the furniture, the backs are worked with a cross frame. The refined round handles are reproduced from the same of the original artifact, in bronze cast on an earth mold, chiseled and polished with a cloth, following and keeping alive the same methods used in past centuries. The bureau secretaire is hand-polished with shellac applied with a brush and slightly antiqued with stone. The final protection is applied to glossy wick, which produces a unique visual result thanks to the splendid chromatisms of the cherry veins tending to red.

The clean and elegant line, the use of the precious essence of solid cherry and the truncated cone-shaped legs denote the stylistic characteristics of the Empire-style furnishings. The original of the bureau secretaire desk dates back to the early nine-teenth century, coming from the Pavia area, in Lombardy.

Historical notes and mobile curiosities

The history of the reproduction of this splendid roller bureau is very curious. A few years ago one of our shopkeeper customers took us to visit a private home to see the rooms to be furnished. We were struck by an original Louis XVI style desk dresser in '800 transition and our client asked us to reproduce this model. At our artisan labora-tory we have found all the dimensions to create the technical drawing, as well as ha-ving taken the photographs necessary for a perfect reproduction. In recent years we have created this precious bureau-desk with sliding roller in different sizes. It is a sur-render that can be easily inserted in prestigious entrances, living rooms and bedrooms of important residences.
