Description Model

Small hand-decorated 17th-century Baroque Tyrolean corner unit with a leaf door for mountain houses and chalets. The majestic decoration with mountain scenes and the structure’s shape are typical of the 17th century furniture from Val di Cembra, Trentino Alto Adige.

MODEL STRUCTURE

The small hand-decorated Tyrolean corner unit has a shaped leaf door processed by framework in the upper part, the frame is supported by elegant bracket feet and crowned by a soft cornice which surrounds all the furniture’s perimeter. The crossbow shaped structure enhances the artistic value and the inner part has a removable shelf. The plan has the same outline of the frame and its edges are finely moulded.

RAW MATERIAL

The corner unit is made of limewood, which has a compact fibre without knots perfect for the lacquering process.

THE PROCESSINGS

The 17th-century Baroque Tyrolean corner unit’s frame is assembled with a strong hand-made mortise and tenon. The shaping of the frame and the leaf door is obtained from solid limewood. The skirting is fixed to the frame with oak pins, as well as the plan. The most important and complicated step is the decoration, lacquered with worn gesso Bologna, to create depressions and imperfections where the brown clay penetrates for an old-fashioned look. The furniture is decorated with polychrome water-based temperas and on the leaf door there is a big central panel with a mountain love scene of the 17th century, on a yellow ochre background, the board has a geometric pattern and it is painted in different colours, the door’s frame is in colour sea green and decorated with 2 rosebuds, typical of mountain Tyrolean furniture. The frame is salmon-coloured like the skirting, whereas the cornice is sea green-coloured. The plan is lacquered and painted in garnet red faux marbling with some beige grain, main feature of the furniture from Val di Cembra. The decorations are established with transparent shellac applied with a brush and final protection with French virgin beeswax applied with a soft cotton cloth. The corner unit is hand-crafted and decorated in our art laboratory.

HISTORICAL NOTES AND CURIOSITIES OF MOBILE

The story behind this elegant corner unit is curious. During our trip to Val di Cembra, we stopped for lunch at a chalet, where we saw the original corner unit at the entrance, so we immediately decided to reproduce it. Our experience gained over the years in reproducing Tyrolean furniture made us possible to create this product thanks to the shaping of the legs on plywood, detailed pictures and technical dimensional drawings. The love and passion for original classic furniture of Trentino-Alto Adige lead us to keep looking for exclusive products, in order to satisfy our high-demanding clientele. Vangelista Mobili 1960 is one of the few companies able to create prestige furniture, 100% Made in Italy.
